Pet Size Guide

Every pet hoodie is made to order, so getting the measurement right the first time means no waiting on a remake. Here's exactly how to measure your dog or cat, the full size chart, and every caveat worth knowing before you order.

How to measure your pet

Bust / chest

Wrap a soft tape around the widest part of your pet's ribcage, just behind the front legs. This is the single most important number — match it directly to the Bust column.

Measure with your pet standing, not sitting or lying down
Snug is right — not tight enough to pinch, not loose enough to slide
Fluffy or thick-coated breeds: press the tape gently through the coat to the body underneath, don't measure over the fluff

Back length

Measure from the base of the neck (where a collar sits) to the base of the tail, following the curve of the back.

Keep the tape flat against the back — don't measure in a straight line if your pet has a long or arched back
Long-bodied breeds (Dachshunds, Corgis): prioritise the bust measurement — a slightly shorter length still looks great

Callouts & caveats

Our sizing runs small — size up if you're unsure. A French Bulldog wears a Medium, not a Small. A Cockapoo wears a Large.
Go by chest, not weight. Two pets the same weight can need completely different sizes depending on body shape.
Body type matters as much as the number. A stocky, broad-chested breed and a leaner, leggier breed can measure almost the same and still need different sizes — use the Recommended Breeds column as a sanity check against your own measurement.
Broad-chested breeds (Frenchies, Pugs, Boxers) — go strictly by the chest measurement, even if the length looks generous.
Long-bodied breeds (Dachshunds, Corgis, Whippets) — prioritise the bust; a slightly shorter length still fits and looks good.
Between two sizes? Size up. Elastic cuffs give a little stretch, and a bit of extra room is more comfortable than anything snug.
Measure at a calm moment — right after a bath, blow-dry, or grooming can temporarily change how the coat sits and throw off the reading.

Don't see your breed? Measure your pet's chest and go by body type — that's the most reliable guide. Two dogs with the same chest measurement can still wear different sizes. Most adult cats wear M or L.

Buckle closure · adjustable neck · slides over collar · available in L, XL, XXL

Neck circumference

Wrap a soft tape around the base of your pet's neck, where their collar normally sits. This is the key measurement for bandana sizing — match it directly to the Neck Circumference column in the chart below.

Measure with your pet standing, head in a natural position
Allow two fingers of slack — the bandana sits over the collar and needs room to lay flat
Thick-coated breeds: measure to the skin, not over the coat

Fit notes

The bandana buckle is adjustable within each size range, so there's flexibility within the neck circumference listed. If your pet is between sizes, size up — the bandana sits better with a little room than pulled tight.

French Bulldogs have wide necks for their body — measure before ordering, most adult Frenchies wear XL
Cockapoos typically wear XL depending on size (toy vs. standard)
Allow 0.5–1" natural variance between garments (made to order)
Not available in XS or S — not suited to toy or very small breeds

Bandana callouts & caveats

Measure neck, not chest. Unlike the hoodie, the bandana sizes by neck circumference — chest measurement is not relevant here.
French Bulldogs — Frenchies have thick, wide necks for their body size. Most adult Frenchies wear XL. Larger males may push XXL — measure first.
Buckle is adjustable within each size range, so there's flexibility. Size up if you're between sizes.
Slides over the collar — the bandana sits on top of the collar, not instead of it. Your pet's collar and leash clip work normally underneath.
Made to order: allow 0.5–1" natural variation between garments.
Ships separately from hoodie sets — bandana add-ons may arrive in a separate parcel on a different day. You'll receive individual tracking for each item.

Chest girth

This line is not a scaled-down version of our main hoodie — it's cut specifically for toy and small breeds, so don't size by comparison to your pet's usual letter size elsewhere

This line runs smaller than our main hoodie collection — an XXL here fits dogs comparable to a Beagle or Cocker Spaniel, well below our main line's smallest size. Don't see your breed? Measure chest girth and back length and go by body type, not weight alone.

Nursery Line callouts & caveats

This is a small/toy breed line, not a scaled-down main hoodie. If your pet wears L or XL on our main matching hoodie sets, they're almost certainly too large for this collection.
Runs small — when in doubt, size up. If a measurement sits right on a size's number, the next size up is usually the better fit.
Go by chest girth, not weight. Two pets the same weight can be very different shapes.
Shortened belly cut — designed with potty breaks in mind, so the fit runs differently than a full-coverage hoodie.
Leash hole sits under the hood, not on the back — different placement than our main hoodie line.
Made to order: allow about 1" (2.5cm) of natural variation between garments.

Common Questions on Sizing

What if my dog is really fluffy or has a lot of fur?

Measure to the skin, not over the coat. Press the tape gently through the fur so you're reading your pet's actual body size — measuring over a thick coat can add an inch or more and bump you into the wrong size.

What if my dog has really short legs?

Short-legged breeds (Corgis, Dachshunds, Basset Hounds) should size by chest measurement, not by how "small" the dog looks overall. Leg length doesn't factor into hoodie fit — chest and back length are what matter.

What if my dog has a broad, stocky chest?

Go strictly by the chest measurement, even if the length column looks generous for that size. Broad-chested breeds like Frenchies, Pugs, and Boxers need the room up front — a little extra length is normal and comfortable, not a sign you sized wrong.

What if my dog is long and lean?

Prioritize the chest measurement over length. Long, lean breeds (Whippets, Greyhounds) sometimes measure slightly short on back length for their chest size — that's expected, and the elastic cuffs keep the fit comfortable either way.

My pet's measurement falls right between two sizes — which do I pick?

Size up. Elastic cuffs give a little natural stretch, so a slightly roomier fit is more comfortable than anything snug — and there's no adjustment on the smaller size if it turns out too tight.

I can't find my pet's breed on the chart — now what?

The breed list is a starting point, not the rule — your pet's actual chest measurement always wins. Find the closest body type in the Recommended Breeds column as a sanity check, or just message us the measurement and we'll confirm the size for you.
